You could be a very important person in the life of an elementary student!

On April 23-24, 2009, regional public, private and home-schooled students have the chance to learn about our environment, its joys and its challenges. Of course they’ll just think they are having fun doing things such as fishing for trout, looking at different water bugs, seeing hawks and eagles up close or taking a hike.

We call this educational field trip “Outdoor Adventures.” It’s a collaboration between two publicly funded programs: the Kiski-Conemaugh Stream Team and Natural Biodiversity. The Kiski-Conemaugh Stream Team monitors water quality in area streams and rivers and educates the public on the value of clean streams. Natural Biodiversity works to stop the spread of invasive alien plants, to reestablish native species and to develop appropriate wildlife habitat. Both programs seek to educate kids about the importance of natural resource conservation and to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards – which is why they co-host Outdoor Adventures.

Outdoor Adventures draws 1,000 elementary students annually to the shore of Quemahoning Lake, where they can learn about their natural heritage, become interested in one or more facets of it and, perhaps, gain inspiration that will lead into a lifelong pursuit.

We don’t have to charge students or their school districts for this invaluable educational experience – because sponsors underwrite most of the costs of Outdoor Adventures. Help us, and you’ll become that very important person who makes a difference in a young person’s life!
