Mission Statement

To recognize, conserve, and celebrate the rich natural and cultural heritage of Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Mountains and to propel its citizenry, leaders, entrepreneurs, and youth toward stewardship.

Celebrate your Outdoor Heritage!
What can we learn from the Alleghenies’ history? This resource-rich region fueled America’s Industrial Revolution – and paid the price through clear-cut hillsides, ravaged lands, and polluted waterways. But over the past few decades the Alleghenies have been making an amazing comeback. You can see the recovery firsthand and become a part of it.You can join kayakers paddling whitewater in mountain streams or discover how to measure the health of those streams. Find out what makes good wildlife habitat or enlist in the battle against invasive plants. It is a time to learn about, experience, and marvel over Pennsylvania’s Alleghenies.

April is Outdoor Heritage Month! Every April kicks off a full year of stewardship activities in the Alleghenies region. Earth Day, Arbor Day, National Environmental Education Week, and Global and National Youth Service Days all have their place in Outdoor Heritage Month. Each April more than 50 conservation organizations renew their commitment to this region’s Outdoor Heritage by revealing how they preserve the land, clean up the water, teach about our environment and provide opportunities to become involved.
